Grrrl attack!

The last 2 years I've been surpised by how many great bands pop up from this shithole called Athens and manage to pull out something new and refreshing,to my ears at least. This time I'm not talking about some noise punk or crust stuff that most of you reading this blog are used to....I'm talking about Daughter, a new grunge-y, post punk, all-female band that will soon release their first ep. Taking obvious cues from bands such as Hole and Nirvana, mixing it with good* 90's rock'n'roll and bits of new wave ala Wipers. I never was a fan of grunge and never gonna be but listening to Daughter made me realize that there are actually some good elements in the genre that when mixed with the right attitude the result comes of nothing less than great! Give the band a listen here:  http://www.reverbnation.com/daughterband

*(by "good" i don't mean the highly overrated Pearl Jam, there were way better bands!)

στρειτ φρομ δε στριτς!

I went through a pile of old cd's sitting on my shelve collecting dust and picked up "Cause For Alarm" by Agnostic Front, I haven't heard the whole in years and to tell the truth, at first I didn't like it at all. I was used to the "Riot, Riot Upstart" stuff plus, for some reason, I hated anything that had to do with mixing metal elements into punk, which is of course what Agnostic Front did in their first albums. But here I am now, banging my head and fists to the intro of The Eliminator! Definitely a record that passed the test against time...twice!

a life in abyss...

Rarely someone remembers my first "real" band and when they do I tend to get so fuckin' nostalgic about it. My good friend and fellow punk comrade, Mike from Fifteen Counts Of Arson blog dig up a recording from back in 2005 (i think) and post it on his blog along with an extensive review of the band that finally answers a lot of my questions about our influences at the time when we wrote the songs.

The band was called Avgrund Livet, you can download the songs straight from here:

misery just never ends...

There's not enough time for a proper post so here's just some stuff I listen a lot lately. First off, I was introduced to The War Goes On few days ago and can't stop listening to their demo,  pure punk fuckin' rock! check'em at Screaming Reality blog.

I strongly advise you to check out Portland's Raw Nerves, burly hc in Poison Idea style. Brilliant delivery & execution, I'm sure they can create a great atmosphere on stage 'cause their records do! Don't miss!
